Abstract Paper

The inspiration for Abstract Paper came during a simple moment – opening mail with a letter opener.  As the paper tore and curled into spontaneous and delicate shapes, I knew that I could capture the simple elegant forms.  One afternoon, intrigued, I grabbed my camera, staged the scene and began exploring light, shadow and form.

Initially, I photographed the paper on my dark wooden desk, but the reflections and background noise detracted from the subject. To focus attention where it belonged, I crafted a simple “stage” with a clean backdrop and subtle props to support the form. Holding the paper at different angles, I played with light and shadow until each composition came to life.

The result is Abstract Paper, a striking minimalist photo that transforms torn paper into abstract art.  This minimal yet expressive image is printed on a matte photo and hand-mounted onto high-quality white cardstock.  Blank inside for your personal message, it’s ideal for thank you notes, quick hellos, or “thinking of you” sentiments.
